Is Porn Harmful

Sex experts and psychologists from around the world have reasons to believe that men, from the dawn of evolution have kept on shifting towards pursuing busty women who are willing to have casual sex with them. Researchers who have studied the social aspects of sex have found the reason behind this to be that a woman’s physical appearance is more indicative of her potential when it comes to reproducing than that of a man’s.

However, what men and women look for in pornography is quite different. For men, it solves one of their biggest problems, that of commitment. Porn offers them free and easy access to sex with multiple partners.

As evolution would have it, a man’s success would be measured on the basis of the number of women he could inseminate while a woman’s success would be enhanced by selecting a partner with an interest in parenting and an abundance of resources.
Pornographic content, according to reports from various researches, happen to activate a man’s visual system at a completely different level than any other thing or people. Once this high definition signal hits the male transmitter, the mesolimbic system takes over and produces a flood of feel-good hormones, which pretty much reinforces a drug-like behavior.

At a point like this, with the visual and arousal systems taking up most of the limelight in a man’s brain, the higher cortical components that are majorly responsible for decision making may even shut off for a while due to less flow of blood towards them. It would seem very much as if the man were under hypnosis.
Porn also happens to trigger the mirror neuron system, which is a part of the brain that urges us to stimulate the actions that we see being performed in front of us. A study revealed that men who watched erotic videos experienced an activation of the mirror neuron system and expressed their desire to copy the actions that they saw. That being said, it takes more than the visual stimulation for a man to be able to climax. Hence rises the irresistible need to masturbate or look for a sexual partner when they watch porn.

How men respond neurologically to porn is definitely stronger than in case of women and it so happens because it seems like the content is meant to suit a man’s sexual interests more than that of a woman, imitating the casual sex that men crave for. Hard core pornography tend to arouse the men more intensely and quickly and that is the reason why they mostly look for porn categories that involve the same.

A report from recent study suggests that with such a wide variety of visual stimulation present on the world wide web, men’s drive for casual sex might just get more and more amplified. Another study suggests that men who use porn happen to be more likely towards having extramarital affairs or multiple sexual partners. A theory called sexual script theory says that what we watch in porn tends to become our definition of what sex should be like in real life.

Porn is, most of the time, depicted in a negative light. However, debate would have it that is designed for the benefit of its primary audience: men. Most of the videos out there consist of penis shots, focusing mostly on the women which makes it easier for a man watching it to feel like he is actually having sex with the woman and not just watching it.

More often than not porn tends to make the viewers interested in partners who would want to engage in similar behavior as depicted in the content they watched in a pornographic video, which is not necessarily a bad thing as it makes people become open to experimenting in bed and as a result improving their sex lives.

Ordinarily, porn is used to get a sexual motivation which can be considered as an almost necessary form of sexual education. But for someone who becomes addicted to it, there is always more to it than learning. The person might have suffered life events that left them feeling inferior or lacking sexually and they could be trying to overcome it by creating a fantasy world by the aid of watching porn.

According to a study, a third of men use porn when they are bored or stressed and a fifth of them when they feel depressed. Women, on the other hand, tend to lose interest in sex the moment they hit lows in life.
When you have an orgasm, the bonding hormone called oxytocin is released which is supposed to emotionally bind you to your partner, and when you are watching porn, your partner becomes the images and content in front of you, which conditions the brain to attach to them. This surge of positive emotions and pleasure overshadows any negative effect that porn can have on the person, hence clouding their stance regarding what could be an addiction.

When it comes to couples, it was found from research that when only one of the partner is into watching porn, the couple tended to report a case of sexual dysfunction, whereas when both watched it they reported lesser relationship problems and greater satisfaction.

One of the most concerning discoveries were how women felt distressed on their partner’s use of porn as it made them feel like they weren’t good enough. A major reason behind their concern was that porn left them and their partners with some pretty unrealistic expectations such like huge dicks and upright breasts.

The takeaway? It all really depends on how you see it. If used constructively and to add more spark to your relationship, porn can definitely help with that. Sex therapists even advice people to incorporate some porn like erotic scenarios in their sex lives in order for the couple to be able to fully satisfy each other and hence share a happier, more fruitful relationship. Most of the time, however, the ultimate desire of every person lies in being accepted, adored and wanted for who they are.
